13 - Closed Stance

  • Turn your shoulders and lower body as you position your weight on the back leg to “coil”.
  • Align your front shoulder with the ball and let your hips follow naturally.
  • Step in with your front foot pointing your toe forward into a closed stance.
  • Start uncoiling your hips before you contact the ball.
  • Transfer all your weight into the front leg as you contact the ball.
  • Uncoil your hips, and the arm and racket will follow, creating power through centrifugal force.
  • Make sure not to lean too far forward, or you will hit the ball with poor balance.
